Let’s Talk About This “Fright Night” Remake, Shall We?

So, anyone who watched the MTV Movie Awards the other night, or happened to catch one of the 82 re-airs, thus far, has certainly seen the the new “Fright Night” trailer. If not, you’re in luck. Voila!

Now, let’s talk about it! Sure….you can’t judge a flick by it’s trailer, and I’m not here to do that. I’m here to express my hopes and fears concerning this remake of one of my all-time favorite movies(I can pretty-much recite the entire movie), and yes, I do still manage to have sex…..with women!

The first “Fright Night” had my attention from beginning to end. William Ragsdale(Charley Brewster) and Amanda Bearse(Amy Peterson) played their characters to a “T”. Will Anton Yelchin and Imogen Poots(she does?) follow suit? Roddy McDowell, as Fake-ass “Vampire Killer”, Peter Vincent, had us laughing at, pulling and feeling sorry for him at the same time. Will David Tennant be able to take us on the same roller coaster ride of emotions as McDowell? Chris Sarandon(the real bearer of the “Sarandon” name) made me fear vampires just a little-bit more with his portrayal of the vampire next door, Jerry Dandridge. His comment to Charlie, after sneaking into the house and grabbing Charlie by the throat, “Now we wouldn’t want to wake your mother would we, Charlie? Then I’d have to kill her too. Right?!?!”, gave me chills with it’s calm, cool, yet violent, tone! How will Colin Ferrell affect us, but more importantly, me, for the next several years? However, not to take away from the importance of these characters, the most important character of the new film is going to be “Evil” Ed, played by Steven Geoffreys in the original. “Oh, your so cool, Brewster” still rings in my ears over 25 yrs later. Evil’s character was infectious, and I’m wondering if Christopher Mintz-Plasse will be able to deliver the same disease-infested(wow, that’s powerful) performance as Geoffreys.

Oh well, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see! One thing’s for sure: Come August 19th, I’ll be front-and-center!
